Mother Podolak’s Chili Contest For the 5th Anniversary at Wild Rose Casino Jefferson
$20 Chili Entry plus ticketing fee | Judging Event is free and open to the public
Mother Podolak’s Chili Contest has been a highlight for Iowa State Fair foodies for seven years and even with the fair postponed, contest sponsor and Wild Rose founder Gary Kirke wasn’t about to let the fan-favorite chili contest simmer on the back burner.
Mother Podolak’s Chili Contest continues full steam ahead as a part of Wild Rose • Jefferson’s 5th Anniversary celebration the weekend of August 14-16. The contest is named after the mother of Kirke’s long-time friend and Hawkeye football standout, Ed Podolak. His mother’s chili was a much-appreciated staple at Hawkeye tailgates and in the press room. Joining Ed at the judges table will be ‘Voice of the Hawkeyes’ Gary Dolphin, Hawkeye basketball standout and commentator Bobby Hansen, former Des Moines Register journalist ‘The Iowa Boy’ Chuck Offenburger, and Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival founder Brooks Reynolds.
Contest judging is Saturday, August 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the Wild Rose Jefferson parking lot. Entry fee is $20. Every participant receives a commemorative chef’s apron and swag. Contest is limited to 50 entries.
Deadline for entries is Thursday, August 13 by 5 p.m.
