Extreme Challenge returns, plans event at Wild Rose. The first mixed martial arts promotion in the state of Iowa has ended a brief hiatus and has scheduled an MMA event on May 18 at the Wild Rose Casino & Resort in Jefferson, Iowa. With the assistance of Brutaal Genesis MMA, a talented lineup of area fighters has been assembled to compete in Extreme Challenge, the nation’s second-oldest event still in operation. Extreme Challenge 240 will start at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. The initial EC was held in November, 1996 in Des Moines. EC 240 features local fighters Michael Boylan, Anthony Shaw, Cale Roelofsen, Sean Frank, Alex Clover, Read Knapp, Drake McKim, Devin Styles, Kyler Dunn, Justice Hefley, Kelsea Tyson, Jarod McKee and Brock Hamer. Tickets start at $30 and are available from participating fighters or online at Nitrotickets.com. It is an all-ages event. Official weigh-ins are set for 6 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at Spare Time Lanes & Lounge. Weigh-ins are open to the public. The after-fight party will be held right after the fights at Wild Rose’s Coaches Corner Sports Bar & Grill. “It’s hard to believe Extreme Challenge has been going for 28 years. In that time, we have produced nine UFC champions and three Bellator champions, along with sending more than 150 fighters to the UFC,” said EC promoter Monte Cox. “It seems only right that we make our return in Iowa.”
